I like this a lot. The right eyelid seems a bit droopy and the hair line could have used a bit more refinement (smaller brush maybe? I'm no paint expert, so unsure), but otherwise a great job. Love your color palette.

Not my thing at all, but nonetheless a near flawless execution. Fantastic background choice, and the anatomy seems about right... although the feet are weird to me, as if they're out of proportion somehow.

I'm sure your friend loved it.

Super cute. I love your style. It's got just the right amount of underground comics style. Since it's concept art, I figure this was simply of little importance, but the background is definitely lacking compared to the foreground characters. It's a bit jarring to have these super edgy looking characters and vehicle design against obviously digital work.

Love, love, LOVE the vehicle design and I'm very curious to see what you do with the characters. I've added some of your pages to my webcomics folder.

JWBalsley responds:

Thank you for the critique, I'm glad you're enjoying my work. You're right though, I'm still experimenting with some digital painting techniques to make it a little less digital looking. On this one I was trying to figure out a way to get a decent motion effect for the ground but I'll still keep experimenting.

That's pretty freaking great. The best critique I can make is that her hand could maybe be less masculine and perhaps less rigid, although those may be the same thing. Some of the red splatter looks a bit too Photoshop-y.

Great piece. Love the look and character design. Big props on the hair, I'm really digging the highlights.

First of all, great job getting me interested in a comic you like!

It's a great little piece. I'd work on the ears a bit, they aren't quite right. It almost looks like a fox Chobit. The chest hair should probably be puffing out a bit more as well, as it does in the comic. Otherwise it's a bit distracting.

That's all I've got criticism-wise. Great color work, and since that was your main focus I'd say awesome job.

maficmelody responds:

Ack, I was so focused on the silhouette I goofed as hard as on my last anthro wearing a hat (which I sorta fixed). As animated as these ears can be, traditional hats are seemingly to be less and less plausible in my book (At least for big-eared ones)

I had to google Chobit, learned something new today. Thanks for the info and crit!

That's a badass iPad doodle. I'm a little confused as to whether the film is in her lap or coming from inside her stomach, although I'm 90% sure it's the latter (looking at the name and "gore" tag just turned that into 100%). So my one criticism is that this could be a little more obvious. Otherwise, that's some great doodle. Revised, it could do gangbusters as a T-shirt.

As someone who's terrible at watercolor, major props up front.

As concept art, this is a solid 5. As a finished piece, I give it a 4. Some of the anatomy, such as the groin area, waist, and the feet, are a bit off or confusing, but that's not a huge issue. The head, easily the most notable aspect, could be more clearly drawn (I'm not entirely sure if it's exploding out of the outer head or is squeezing out). That said, I feel like the most thought went into the head and not so much into the rest. It's a sweet piece and I'd be very interested in seeing a revision. If this was in fact a piece of concept art, I'd be up for whatever game/movie/etc it was a part of.

Fun, grotesque piece.
